(see the bottom of the page for vocabulary)

Labor Day is a public holiday in the USA, and it is celebrated on the first Monday in September - this year it falls on 6th September 2021. Labor Day can be compared to European 1st May - both days are set aside to pay tribute to working men and women.

On Labor Day all government offices, organizations, schools, and many businesses are closed.

Many Americans take advantage of this long Labor Day weekend to take last break before schools starts. There are organized public gatherings, for example parades or fireworks displays. People also celebrate with picnics, barbecues and take trips.
